Simplifying a bit, each CPU instruction can either do one single sum, load a value from memory, store a value to memory, or jump to another instruction, conditionally or not. (fixed function hw for these can be too complex and target too few real cases, so Idk well how much of this does actually exist). Inner FPU's could also do some complex functions like powers, logarithms, trigonometrics. Ingo Leif Software GPU Impulse Reverb plugin (CUDA)ĬPU's can perform basic sums like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and bit wise operations (rotations, shifts, boolean logic.), on integers (or just values that haven't got numerical meaning), fixed point and floating point numbers.

Egg on my face, they are planning to implement OpenCL in the future. I mean even on the AMD site links to so I figured it was already working.
I stand corrected then, they haven't finished the development for the ATI but have for the Nvidia cards I think.Įither way, I just posted info for the OP and in the future once gets the development finished the ATI cards should be using OpenCL and he can know where to find it.
